Literacy Block:
The daily literacy block includes a mini-lesson, guided reading groups, and independent skill practice! The whole class mini-lesson focuses on fluency, the comprehension strategy of the week, vocabulary development, summary writing, and review of skills and strategies previously taught and practiced. In guided reading groups (typically 3-5 students each), the students participate in fluency practice, reading the same book together, small group conversations that promote comprehension, and quick writes. During independent literacy practice, the students engage in activities that allow them to practice these skills, work at their own pace, and become more confident in their individual reading abilities! |
Students use the storyboards they created to orally summarize stories they've read!
